Association of Poetry and Music Glasgow have received a major award from the Heritage Lottery Fund for this February’s Sufi Festival. The project will use the framework of the World Sufi Festival to develop education and knowledge on the early development of Sufism in an age of enlightened scientific exploration and quest for advancement.

Iranians in Glasgow join in

The Iranian Scotland Association has joined APMG to bring a strong Iranian contribution to this year’s Sufi Festival.

Iran is very much a key location in the development of Sufism and a key country on the ancient trade routes that carried Sufi ideas. No official statistics are available, but according to BBC News it is believed that two to five million Iranians practice Sufism today - compared to only about 100,000 in 1979. BBC News reported informed opinion saying that Iran is home to the largest number of Sufis in the Middle East. Watch out for the Iranian Sufi presence at the February Festival.
