Association of Poetry and Music Glagow
sufi stories

A selection of Sufi stories are listed below. Click on each of the titles to read the full story.

Exploring Sufism and Enlightenment

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund the association of Poetry Music and Drama Glasow has developed a programme of educational activities and resources.

These are aimed at children, teachers, youth workers and anyone who has an interest in exploring Sufism and Enlightenment.

In a world which can appear obsessed with pleasure and material wealth, Sufi wisdom has a great relevance in how we think about our own actions and how we interact with other people and our environment.

Discover a world of humour and wit which will surpise you with the ease of entertainment. On the left column there are links to a series of short stories. Have a look at these stories and then;

At 7 years old you'll be able to understand things you couldn't understand at 4.

In the same way, when you get to 70 you'll understand things you wouldn't understand at 40.

Some people at 40 forget things they understood when they were 4!

And some things in life we never understand.

Association of Poetry and Music Glasgow
and Education

Education and culture go together for the Association of Poetry & Music Glasgow. APMG aims to support the protection of cultures that are challenged by the modern world but which must operate effectively in that modern world – so we work with people that love their heritage and are proud to present this before the public. Allowing traditional cultures to share in the benefits of intercultural exchange and dialogue leads to a two-way educational process.

Presentation of traditional cultures adapting to and effectively operating in the globalised environment is an important part of the living culture.

Together we can celebrate the sense of place and continuity that heritage arts and crafts bring to the understanding of where we have come from and their living relevance in the modern day. We are producing a series of educational resources alongside our events.

Background

The name 'Sufi' comes from Sáf which means pure in Arabic. It is a name that was given to them by others not one that they gave themselves. Sufism, rightly understood, is truly a spiritual doctrine of freedom and light.

Sufism is practiced around the world by millions of Muslims in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Central Asia, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and China.

History

According to many Sufis, the essential Truths of Sufism exist in all religions.
